On the Prospect of Establishing a Pantisocracy in America
- 1Whilst pale Anxiety, corrosive Care,
- 2The tear of Woe, the gloom of sad Despair,
- 3And deepen'd Anguish generous bosoms rend;--
- 4Whilst patriot souls their country's fate lament;
- 5Whilst mad with rage demoniac, foul intent,
- 6Embattled legions Despots vainly send
- 7To arrest the immortal mind's expanding ray
- 8Of everlasting Truth;--I other climes
- 9Where dawns, with hope serene, a brighter day
- 10Than e'er saw Albion in her happiest times,
- 11With mental eye exulting now explore,
- 12And soon with kindred minds shall haste to enjoy
- 13(Free from the ills which here our peace destroy)
- 14Content and Bliss on Transatlantic shore.
