To Robert Southey of Baliol College, Oxford, Author of the 'Retrospect' and Other Poems

  1. 1SOUTHEY! thy melodies steal o'er mine ear
  2. 2Like far-off joyance, or the murmuring
  3. 3Of wild bees in the sunny showers of Spring--
  4. 4Sounds of such mingled import as may cheer
  1. 5The lonely breast, yet rouse a mindful tear:
  2. 6Wak'd by the Song doth Hope-born FANCY fling
  3. 7Rich showers of dewy fragrance from her wing,
  4. 8Till sickly PASSION'S drooping Myrtles sear
  1. 9Blossom anew! But O! more thrill'd, I prize
  2. 10Thy sadder strains, that bid in MEMORY'S Dream
  3. 11The faded forms of past Delight arise;
  4. 12Then soft, on Love's pale cheek, the tearful gleam
  1. 13Of Pleasure smiles--as faint yet beauteous lies
  2. 14The imag'd Rainbow on a willowy stream.
