On a Lady Weeping[;] Imitation From the Latin of Nicolaus Archius
- 1Lovely gems of radiance meek
- 2Trembling down my Laura's cheek,
- 3As the streamlets silent glide
- 4Thro' the Mead's enamell'd pride,
- 5Pledges sweet of pious woe,
- 6Tears which Friendship taught to flow,
- 7Sparkling in yon humid light
- 8Love embathes his
pinions bright:
- 9There amid the glitt'ring show'r
- 10Smiling sits th' insidious Power;
- 11As some wingéd Warbler oft
- 12When Spring-clouds shed their treasures soft
- 13Joyous tricks his plumes anew,
- 14And flutters in the fost'ring dew.
